We unofficially began in 2004, but it was only after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 that we decided to form Mars Rescue. We sent a van there to rescue dogs and the experience changed us forever and we realized a passion and love that turned our commitment to rescuing dogs into a formal, federally recognized non-profit organization. We received our 501c3 status in 2007 and are dedicated to our mission MARS (Mobile Animal Rescue Service) Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We never discriminate on the basis of health, age or breed. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition. By involving and educating the community, MARS works to raise the public awareness of the plight of homeless animals.
